The ''Boathouse'' is a 3 bedroom bungalow perched on a dune top, overlooking Cape Cod Bay. The cottage with wrap-around deck offers a great vantage point for sunsets. Warm tides and shallow water make the bay enjoyable for swimming, and the tidal changes create a dynamic and often spectacular backdrop.
While the Boathouse has been expanded and recently renovated, it is rather unique in that it has a history dating back 300 years. The original 12 x 12 ft structure (now the living room) was originally located on Billingsgate Island (now Billingsgate Shoal -- submerged at high tide), and was floated to its current location around about the 1860's when a handful of cottages were rescued from being ravaged by the sea. The interior has rough wood paneling throughout and the living room ceiling exhibits the original wide hand-hewn roof decking.
Without being deprived of creature comforts, the cottage is especially suited for folks wanting to relax and take in the outer Cape's natural and overwhelming beauty.
The cottage is set back from the dune top with direct water views, and the deck is private and nicely protected from offshore winds. The private beach is accessible via the stairs from the dune top, just in front of the cottage. You will be lulled to sleep by the waves... and awoken by the seagulls! Most guests ''live'' on the deck, enjoying the adirondack chairs, BBQ grill, hexagonal picnic table and market umbrella. The Eastham Lobster Pool is nearby and you will want to order your steamed lobsters ''to go'' so you don't miss a single sunset.
